Compressor and freezer thermostat replaced

I bought the unit in July, 1999. It started making strange noises in late 2012, but seemed to be working. Suddenly, I noticed that the fresh food section wasn't very cold, and things in the freezer started to defrost. It turned out I needed a new compressor, which was installed. It worked for a few months, then started again. The technician found that the thermostat needed replacing, so it was done. It was perfect for a week, then started warming up again. It appears it's the defrost timer, since when he told me to turn it, the temperature would regulate. Finally, it stopped working completely. I just ordered a new refrigerator, but the parts are only 6 months and 1 month old in the old unit. What a waste they'll be disposed of when they remove it.
