washes beautifully, but will not drain

Dishwasher runs for 2 minutes then stops

All cycles will start. After two minutes of running the washer stops and won't start again for a half an hour or so. To drain it I have to wait the half hour and put it in the drain cycle and it will drain. After the 30 minutes I can put it in any part of the cycle and it will work for the 2 minutes then it stop regardless of where I set the knob.
